Whereas, in the past patients would have been hospitalized overnight. The Orthopaedic Outpatient Surgery Center (OOSC) is the perfect facility for time-conscious patients who appreciate personal care.

OOSC is jointly owned and operated by Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons (DMOS) and Iowa Health-Des Moines. The OOSC is exclusively dedicated to the care and treatment of patients with orthopaedic conditions. Our exceptional knowledge, combined years of experience, and one-on-one personal care allow us to provide patients a comfortable environment and recovery stay.

To prepare for your surgery:

Surgery CenterOOSC is located on the North side of the DMOS-West building on 60th Street in West Des Moines. If you are scheduled for a procedure at OOSC, we look forward to treating you! Our goal is to make sure your entire visit is pleasant and as comfortable for you and your family as possible. One of our nurses will contact you a few days prior to your surgery to take a brief health assessment, discuss your medical history, and answer any questions you may have about our surgery center. The day before your surgery, one of our nurses will contact you a second time to confirm your arrival time and surgery time. During this call you will also receive a few specific instructions, and will be given the opportunity to ask any additional questions.

Family members are encouraged to wait with patients in our pre-op area before surgery. We request at least one family member to remain in our waiting area during surgery. After surgery, you will be cared for by our skilled nurses in one of our recovery rooms. Your family will join you in your post-op room as you recover, and await your surgeon to discharge you. All this can be done in as little as 2-5 hours, depending on your surgery. The next business day, one of our nurses will call to see how you are recovering.
