Biography
Dr. Alexander Volkmar is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction. A native of Clarinda, Iowa, he earned his Biomedical Engineering degree and medical doctorate from the University of Iowa, followed by residency training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and fellowship at the University of Utah. He is a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Dr. Volkmar is passionate about restoring mobility and improving quality of life for his patients. He brings expertise in multiple surgical approaches, complex revision procedures, and robotic assisted joint replacement. His patient-centered philosophy emphasizes shared decision-making and personalized care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Volkmar enjoys hiking, golfing, and spending time with his wife and their soon-to-arrive son. He’s an avid football fan and proudly supports the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs.
