Biography
Dr. Matthew Herring is a board-certified orthopedic trauma surgeon who joined DMOS in June 2025. Most recently residing in California, he grew up in a military family and has lived across the U.S., even attending high school in Germany. He completed his medical education at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, his residency at the University of Minnesota, and his fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology at the University of California – San Francisco.
Now several years into his clinical practice, Dr. Herring specializes in orthopedic trauma surgery, including pelvis, acetabulum and limb salvage. Following his orthopedic traumatology fellowship, he practiced at a busy Level 2 trauma center in Redding, CA. This opportunity challenged him to manage complex cases independently, pushing his surgical skill set and deepening his understanding of caring for critically ill patients.
Dr. Herring enjoys helping patients return to their highest level of function following an injury. He takes pride in listening to them and understanding their unique needs, as well as collaborating with his team to develop a treatment plan that aligns with the best possible outcomes for each patient. Offering the best evidence-based medicine that reflects the patients’ preferences and goals, he believes, is the true art of medicine and why he decided to become an orthopedic trauma surgeon.
When he is not treating patients, Dr. Herring enjoys spending time with his family, including his young daughter and his wife, as well as biking and traveling, especially to Europe.
